Nocton village trail
The Nocton Village Trail guides you around the village to look at
a selection of old buildings and to tell the story of some
of the people who lived and farmed here. But it also
directs you to a remarkable series of 21st-century village
arts projects reflecting Nocton’s history, each of which was
realised with the guidance of the imaginative and dedicated
team of artsNK. In collaboration with the Nocton Village Trail
Association, the Art Group and Nocton School, this dialogue
has resulted not only in the long-lasting features you will see
on the route, but also in ephemeral events, such as a school
art exhibition in Nocton Church to mark the Queen’s Golden
Jubilee, and tree-dressings and lantern-making to light the
way to the church at Christmas. The people of Nocton have
turned up for workshops, met their neighbours, shared the
village’s history, learned about their surroundings and about
each other. They’ve learned new skills, such as making
pebble mosaics, mosaic-making with tesserae, wood carving
and stained glass soldering. The age range is from 2 to 80.
For many people, these activities have acted as a glue
binding the community together.
The Nocton trail complements the Stepping Out in North Kesteven leaflets. As you walk the route, follow the
way- markers which capture the village’s story in images.
